Brave Pirates Wanted

Captain Ezekiel Rott and the Casa de Muertos guild are looking for some brave Pirates. You see, Captain Rott and his crew work for rich merchant who is coming to Port Royal in about a month to conduct some important business. However, before he makes his appearance, the merchant needs some work done on the island to prepare for his arrival. Pirates that help the guild complete these "jobs" will be rewarded large sums of gold.

Meet Captain Rott and crew on the beach of Port Royal by shipwright Darby Drydock from 9/4 - 9/27 to help out, but be prepared, Casa de Muertos is looking for Pirates that have some experience for these Quest:

Captain Ezekiel Rott - There is no level requirement for this Quest
Samuel Shaw - An overall Notoriety Level 8 required for this Quest
Bill Barrett - An overall Notoriety Level 14 required for this Quest

Nathan Gould - An overall Notoriety Level 16 required for this Quest

Jeremiah Dedman - An overall Notoriety Level 20 required for this Quest

New Features

Introducing the Revive System. This will let you keep mates from going "unconscious" and being carried off to jail when defeated in battle

When reviving another Pirate, you will use one of the smallest tonics in your inventory

Introducing new avatar body types for new Pirates created after this release

Improved Early Player Experience

Players now have the option of skipping the tutorial after creating their pirate
Removed the ad-frame for Basic Members, now Basic Members can play the game in full screen from day one

Pirates Online keeps getting better - check out the latest game updates:
-NEW! Revive a Mate! Tired of being sent to jail when defeated in battle? With this option, any -Pirate can now revive you and save you a trip to jail.
-All ships carry more cargo now.
-Basic members can now play in full screen all the time!
-Players can now skip the tutorial after creating a Pirate.
-Creating a new Pirate? Based on Player feedback, we changed the look of body shapes to make your Pirate more realistic! Original body shapes are still in game, but now all newly created Pirates use the new body shapes.
-These and many other improvements - including quest improvements to make adventuring more fun - have just been added to the game! Plus, more great additions are on the way in the months ahead! Log on now and play!

Avast ye Pirates! This be the last weekend to make your mark as the Strongest Guild in the Caribbean! Let's take a look the current standings as we head into the last weekend of the competition - remember, you've got until midnight, Sunday, July 26 (Pacific Time) to prove your guild! Check out the progress guilds like Black Bart's Krewe have made, Bart's Krewe went from #12 to #6, in a few short days, while the Emerald Sea Gang pushes Spania out of the the #4 spot! Our tricorn (hat) is off to Pirates like Rachel Tresurewrecker and Beth Macstack who still rank in the top three, but Pirates make way for the aptly named Pirate, Invincible Warlord of the McRaging guild, he's beat down a whopping 81,433 enemies since the competition started. This is a warlord you want on your side!
Congratulations to all - but keep up the fight mates, there's still time to knock those other guilds out of their current position!

More Pirates are joining us in the Caribbean everyday! Just a reminder mates, ALL Pirates are expected to live by the code - and by that we mean the Pirates Online Code of Conduct.
Pirates that don't follow these rules can not only be removed from the game (in some cases permanently) but they also loose the chance for special opportunities, like being selected for the Player Spotlight or a free account upgrade*. Your behavior could also negatively affect your guild if they are being considered for the Guild Spotlight.**
Keep your account in good standing, follow these tips:
- Pirates of all ages sail these waters, so always mind your tongue. Inappropriate topics outlined in the Code of Conduct are not acceptable and could get you removed from the game if you discuss them.
- Never ask for or give your personal information to anyone in the game or online. This includes your phone number, email or home address - It's just not safe.
- Don't harass other players. Show your fellow Pirate brethren some respect and treat others as you would like to be treated.
Let's make the Caribbean a welcoming place for all Pirates by keeping to the code!
* We sometimes select Pirates at random for free account upgrades. If you are selected for an upgrade, we will review your account to make sure it's in good standing, if it's not, you will not be eligible for the opportunity.
** Guilds being considered for the Guild Spotlight should have Guild Masters and Officers without account violations for the past 60 days. The guild should also have at least 75% of their members in good standing, with no account violations.

Important Update to Chat Moderation

Starting June 26, 2009, we will add a feature that will detect if players use bad language and will automatically suspend your account if you continue to attempt using foul language. Pirates will be automatically warned two times. Bad language of any kind is never acceptable in Pirates Online.
On the final warning -- your account will be automatically banned from the Caribbean. The length of time you are removed from the game depends on your account history. If you've had previous violations, you could be banned from the game permanently!

Calling All Testers!

Bad language of any kind is never acceptable in Pirates Online. We have added a feature that will detect if players use bad language and will automatically suspend your account if you continue to attempt using foul langauge .
It works like this: If you use foul language in chat, you get a warning. If you insist on using bad language, you get one more warning. After that -- your account will be automatically banned from the Caribbean. The length of time you are removed from the game depends on your account history. If you?ve had previous violations, you could be banned from the game permanently!
This feature will be on the Test Servers to start and will eventually be introduced to the Live servers shortly thereafter.

We've released new features and improvements to Pirates of the Caribbean, log in now. This is a perfect chance to begin your life as a Pirate as we've expanded and changed many early game experiences. Enjoy!
New Features:
-Early Quests have been modified for better playability, including Quests to find the first three Black Pearl crew members and Quest lines related to the Voodoo Doll

Note: This first update means that I will have to rewrite all of the early quest guides! Arrr!
-Introduced 70 new tutorial pop-up hints, these hints can be turned on and off from the Game Options Menu (F7)
Transportation Enhancements:
-Added new Dockworker NPCs to help Pirates stowaway on ships. This is a new transportation option which helps Pirates reach their destination without sailing a ship or needing a Teleport Totem. To become a stowaway, find a Dockworker on the dock of Tortuga, Port Royal, Padres Del Fuego or Cuba and pay him the gold he requests for the service.
-Added 38 new, player submitted ship names to the Shipwrights Ship Naming Menu

Bad news pirates! The POTCO crew has removed the ability to tab between accounts, for "security reasons," they say. They ask you to use your own unique account name and password. They have also changed their customer support hours. All times are Pacific Standard Time (PST):

Darby Drydock's New Ship

Getting Started: Speak to Darby Drydock, one of the Shipwrights on Port Royal. Make sure you select the "Darby Drydock's New Ship" quest, not the "Caribbean Struggle" one. He wants you to acquire materials for the new ship he's making. First, he wants wood planks from a Navy ship. Low-level Navy ships sail around Tortuga, Port Royal, and Devil's Anvil. Medium-level ones sail around Driftwood Island and Rumrunner's Isle, and high-levels sail around Padres Del Fuego, Outcast Isle, and Kingshead. When you've got the planks, return to Darby and he wants an iron bar, again from a Navy ship. When you get one and return to him, he wants a copper rod from a Navy ship. Once you get that, the last thing he wants is a yard of sailcloth from an EITC ship.

Getting Started: This quest can be started by either Captain Job or Josie McReedy in the Royal Anchor in Port Royal. It can also be started by Johnny McVane in the King's Arm tavern in Tortuga.
The task is as follows:
Defeat x number of some creature. The number and type of creatures will vary and increase in difficulty as you advance in notoriety. If you don't like the type s/he gives you then decline the quest and try again. You will randomly get another creature type and amount to kill.
The reward equation is:
x = 10 + 5 • (Notoriety Level)
where x is the number of gold pieces you receive.

A Favor for Peter Chiparr

Prerequisites: None
Recommended Abilities: None
Rewards: Gold, Notoriety
Getting Started: Speak to Peter Chiparr in Solomon's Tattoo Parlor in Port Royal. He wants you to get revenge on the Navy after they attacked him. Sam Seabones was also with him, so go speak to him. Sam is on the Port Royal docks. He says that he was attacked as well, so he didn't see anything Peter didn't. Relay this information back to Peter now, and he says we'll have to do it the hard way and tells you to recover the name of the attacker from a Navy Soldier. Head out to either Fort Charles or the area around the Governor's Mansion to defeat Navy Soldiers.

Once you get the name (it shouldn't take long at all), go back and tell Peter. When he finds out it's Officer Miller, he tells you to go and maroon him. To do this, you have to sink Navy ships until you capture him, then maroon him at any wild island such as Devil's Anvil. When you finish with that, go back to Peter to tell him the good news. Then you've finished the quest!

Getting Started: Talk to R. Smith, Pewterer, in his shop in Port Royal. He wants you to acquire a new set of tools from him from any EITC ship. If you want to finish the quest quickly, there are low level EITC ships such as Sea Vipers sailing between Port Royal and Tortuga. After you sink the ship, return to Smith; he tells you to get an iron bar from any EITC ship now. Again, go out and sink any type of EITC ship until you get the bar. Return to Smith when you finished that task, and for your last task, he want you to get a bag of coal, again from any EITC ship. Then go back to R. Smith and talk to him to complete the quest.

Getting Started: Speak to Shane McGreeny in the Royal Anchor in Port Royal to start the quest. He then tells you to thin the line of Navy Cadets in Port Royal, and then get a key from a Guard to free his friend. Exit the bar and head up to the area around the Governor's Mansion. There should be many Cadets walking around here. Defeat 8 of them, then enter Fort Charles to get the key from the guard. Once you get the key, go back to Shane and he'll give you a cheat card as a reward.

Crab Shells for Lucinda

Recommended Abilities: The ability to defeat very low-level enemies

Getting Started: Speak to Lucinda in Port Royal. Click on the Quest button to start the quest. She wants you to gather 2 crab shells from Sand Crabs for her. There are Sand Crabs on the beach of Port Royal, as shown in this picture: Defeat them until you have the 2 crab shells, then head back to Lucinda. She then wants you to recover 2 alligator tails from Swamp Alligators. The closest Swamp Alligators are in the King's Run on the other side of town, in the Graveyard (the King's Run is through the Tree Tunnel):The Swamp Alligators there are near the river. Once you have the tails, return to Lucinda for your last task, which is recovering 2 blood from Giant Scorpions. The nearest ones are in the Wicked Thicket, next to where the Sand Crabs are. Once you have the ingredients, go back to Lucinda to finish the quest.

Getting Started: Speak to Black Mack. He is in the Royal Anchor in Port Royal. In order to prove you're a card player, he wants you to win 150 gold at poker. If you have at least 200 gold, I recommend you go to the Ratskellar in Padres Del Fuego because the stakes are higher there. Anyways, when you are finished, return to Black Mack. He says the skeletons have been bothering him, so if you kill one he'll give you the cheat card. Go out and kill a skeleton (the closest ones are in the graveyard next to Fort Charles as seen in the picture) and return to him to get your cheat card.

We continue to make various bug fixes and tweaks to Pirates based on your feedback, this latest updates such as:

- Improved loading times for cannons, now when a player starts using a cannon, they can fire right away instead of waiting for the cannon to reload. Afterwards, the cannon will reload like normal.

A few months back we gave Pirates a chance to submit your own ship names for addition to the Ship Naming Menu. You really stepped up to the challenge, responding with thousands of great names!

We were looking for unique and creative names that worked with our current list of ship names. Names like Malicious Squirrel, Student Driver and Silent Buttdeadly -- offered us a good chuckle -- didn't get selected, for obvious reasons. Copyrighted names were also not acceptable.

We picked 38 names. These new names have been added to our latest game update and will be available very soon from any Shipwright.

The goal? Win the pot (all the gold bet by you and by other players). A Pirate doesn't necessarily have to have the best hand (combination of cards) to win -- you can always bluff and simply convince everybody else that you have the best hand. A skilled player soon learns when to go for an actual win, when to bluff, and when it's time to fold (quit).

Usually poker games begin with an ante –– that is, everybody contributes a little to the pot before each game starts so that there's a nice amount of gold for the eventual winner. But there's a special rule in the Caribbean. Two players are chosen at random to provide what's called the Small Blind and the Big Blind. The term "blind" is used because these two players are forced to bet before ever seeing any cards –– in other words, they must bet "blind." The Small Blind is usually one gold, the Big Blind two gold, so that every game begins with three gold coins in the pot. Don't think you're being cheated by having to pay a blind –– everybody has to pay blinds equally throughout gameplay.

Below are the basic poker hands. In most cases, if two players have the same kind of hand, the ranking (numerical value) of the cards will determine the winner.

Tortuga Hold'Em Poker
This form of poker uses seven cards. The dealer begins by giving each Pirate two cards face down. These hole or pocket cards are only seen by their Pirate holders until the final showdown of the game. Next comes the first round of betting, beginning with the Pirate to the dealer's left and going clockwise from there. Betting continues until all bets are matched. Pirates may fold at any time.
You can cheat by swapping out cards in your hand with ones up your sleeve. You earn these cheat cards by completing special Quests. As you play, you'll see buttons at the bottom of the screen that read Swap Card (blackjack) or Swap 1^st Card and Swap 2^nd Card (poker). If you have earned cheat cards, you may click on these buttons to improve you hand. It takes practice and skill, but you can reap great rewards. Just remember –– if you're caught cheating, you'll lose your gold!
Note that during a round of betting, you have several options in the panel on the bottom of your screen, depending on the stage of the game. If you are first in any betting round, you can Bet (put a certain amount of gold into the pot that everyone else must match). You can Call (match the bet of the previous player in order to stay in the game). You can Raise (call the previous bet and add more, which everyone after you must match). And you can Check (not bet any money, though this option is limited). And, of course, you can always Fold (withdraw from that game) if you think your hand is bad enough that you have no hope of winning. If you have cheat cards, you can also Swap 1st Card or Swap 2nd Card (see Cheating section below for details).

After the first round of betting, the dealer then deals out three community cards face up on the table. These cards are usable by all players, in combination with their two hole cards, to make a five-card poker hand. A second round of betting follows. Then the dealer deals out a fourth community card face up on the table. A third round of betting follows. The dealer then deals out the fifth and final community card face up on the table, and the fourth and last round of betting follows.

Now comes the showdown. Pirates make the best five-card hand they can out of any of their seven cards (the five community cards and their two hole cards). The best hand wins the pot. If all but one pirate folds, that pirate gets the pot. If two pirates have the same hand, they split the pot.
Tells
All pirate card games require skill, but one of the most important skills is the ability to control yourself. If you've got a winning hand, it's hard not to grin like a fool or throw your arms up in the air in glee. You might as well just tell everybody what your hand is. Likewise, even small gestures can give away your emotions and thus tell other players how good or bad your hand is. These little gestures -- for example, slumping when you have a bad hand, or raising your eyebrows when you have a good hand –– will lower your chances of winning. Such little gestures are called "tells," and sometimes players just can't resist showing them.

On the other hand, it's jolly good when other players display tells. Especially when you play poker, keep a weather eye on your opponents. If you see a tell, you'll have a hint at how good that player's hand is, and you can play your own hand better.
Cheating
At any time you play, you can be sure that the dealer isn't going to cheat. No dealer in the Caribbean wants a bunch of angry pirates going for his throat. So the only cheating you have to worry about is that of the players … such as yourself.

Treasure Unlock: Treasured Chess Set

Benefits: It's a treasure quest.
Getting Started: Speak to Joshamee Gibbs. He is in the Faithful Bride tavern in Tortuga: After you speak to him, he gives you the task of earning 150 gold playing Poker. I would suggest you teleport to Padres Del Fuego if you can, because the stakes are higher there. You should probably have at least 200 gold to play in Padres. Don't know how to play poker? Click here for a guide. Play poker in the Ratskellar in Padres (the other tavern doesn't have a poker table):
If there are already human players sitting at the table (you can tell by the name tag above them that they are real players, not npcs), then switch to another ocean. It should be very quick and easy if you follow one strategy: Always raise. If you always raise, the npcs will most likely fold. Keep doing this until you win the 150 gold. Then, return to Joshamee Gibbs. Now you are free to collect the treasures all you like! For a list of all the Treasures, click here.

When you return to Carver, he says that 'James Pidgeley' is described with a tattoo that looks too much like his, so he wants to burn it off. Visit Doc Grog. He is in the building straight across from the Faithful Bride. He needs 4 blood from Giant Scorpions, 4 hairs from level 4+ skeletons, and 6 bat guano from Cave Bats.
• Giant Scorpions can be found in Devil's Anvil, Rumrunner's Isle, Outcast Isle, Murky Hollow, Royal Caverns, Wicked Thicket, Thieves Den, Wildwoods, Padres Del Fuego, Rumrunner's Isle, Devil's Anvil, and Outcast Isle.
•L4+ skeletons can be found pretty much anywhere where there are skeletons, including the Wildwoods.
•Cave Bats can be found in Tortuga, Cuba, and the Lava Gorge in Padres Del Fuego.
Let's go to the Wildwoods since all our ingredients can be found there. Once you retrieve them, return to Carver to deliver the remedy. Now he just needs you to steal the final warrant from him. You have to search the desk inside the Thieves' Den fort. It is located in Tortuga, past the Tortuga Graveyard. This could be a tough task, as there are a couple thugs inside the building, so try to bring a friend, and definitely bring tonics. Once you finish this, return to Carver, and you are done with the Carver recruitment!

Pirates of the Caribbean Online (or POTCO for short) is an MMORPG by Disney that is based in the world of Pirates of the Caribbean. As a pirate, many different activities are available to you, such as combat, voodoo, sea combat, privateering, PvP (player vs player, or pirate vs pirate in this case), card games, quests. As a basic access member, much of the game is limited, such as different clothes, tattoos, jewelry, levels, quests, 3 of the 6 available weapons, and 7 of the 9 available ships.
One can interact with many characters from the movie (Will Turner, Jack Sparrow, Jolly Roger) through a unique story quest that involves recruiting crew members to take back the Black Pearl. The max levels are 40 for notoriety level (your main level) and 25 (7 for basic access) for each of the weapons and skills, such as cannon, sailing, pistol, cutlass, etc. Also, while Unlimited access members can get their hands on 4 pirates, basic access can only create 2 pirates on the same account.
In the beginning, you are able to customize your pirate's looks (clothes, hair style and color, height, facial features). After a long tutorial, you are free to do anything you please.

Pirates Online also features a guild and crew system. A pirate can join a crew to sink ships or defeat enemies with other pirates, but a crew is only temporary. If you are looking to be part of a longer lasting friendship, then you should join a guild. Guilds can be used to get help from other pirates when you need it, or simply to chat with when you're bored.

Ships and plundering play a big role in POTCO. Plundering ships is considered to be the fastest way to earn money (especially with pirate crews). When you buy your ship, you can go out to it by going over to a dinghy and pressing the shift key. When you're out on seas, you can plunder enemy ships by attacking them with cannons and sinking them or by using your broadsides while you are sailing. When a ship is sunk, you get notoriety points (exp) and sailing/cannon notoriety (depending on how you sunk the ship). You can also board enemy flagships and receive even more notoriety points by attacking and killing all the crew aboard.

You will get your first ship, a Light Sloop, when Elizabeth Swann sends you on a special Quest in the tutorial. This ship is enough to get you around the Caribbean, but because it only has two cannons, you will be extremely vulnerable. As soon as possible, you'll want to buy a bigger better ship from a Shipwright.

You can own more than one ship –– if you can afford it. In fact, you can own a total of three ships! Consider your goals carefully. Each class of hull is designed to do one task superbly –– at the cost of other qualities, though. Purchase your ships from a Shipwright. Basic Access Pirates have access to only the Light Sloop and Light Galleon. Unlimited Access can purchase all the ships. Here is a list of the ships and their statistics:

Grenade

About it:
The Grenade is a powerful ranged weapon; however, it is very hard to aim and actually hit the enemy. It is best used on a group of enemies (single enemies are hard to hit) because the explosion of the grenade hits all of the enemies. You can obtain the Grenade by doing the grenade unlock quest at level 20. Here are the skills:
Combat Skills:
Throw - Basic grenade throwing skill.
Long Volley - hold down the attack button to throw the grenade farther. The longer you hold down the button, the further it will go. Unlocked at level 4.
Ammunition:
Explosive - A hefty grenade.
Stink Pot - A weak but stunning grenade. Slows the target(s). Unlocked at level 2.
Flame Bomb - A flammable concoction. Burns the target(s). Unlocked at level 8.
Smoke Bomb - A smoke grenade that can be used to obscure vision. Blinds the target(s). Unlocked at level 12.
Siege Charge - A powerful siege bomb - watch out, it is heavy! Unlocked at level 20.
Passive Skills:
Determinaton - Increases Health Recovery rate. Unlocked at level 6.
Demolitions - Increases the area of effect for Grenade and Cannonball explosions. Unlocked at level 10.
Toughness - Decreases damage suffered by incoming physical attacks. Unlocked at level 14.
Ignore Pain - Stun effect durations are reduced. Unlocked at level 17.
Grenade Sacks:
Small Sack - Obtained from Gunsmith for 1000. Unlocked at level 7.
Medium Sack - Obtained from Gunsmith for 4000. Unlocked at level 12.

Voodoo Staff

[UNLIMITED ACCESS WEAPON ONLY]
About it:
The Voodoo Staff is more powerful than the Voodoo Doll, but it can be used only to attack. Because it deals out large amounts of damage, it requires more Voodoo Power to use. Unlike the Voodoo Doll, the Staff does not need to attune to a target. Like the Doll, the Staff works well from a distance. When attacking in a group, your mateys can engage the enemy at close quarters while you keep to the edges casting multiple hexes. When you activate your Staff, you will see a meter that shows the power of the Staff as it builds. The Staff cannot discharge your hex or spell until the meter reads full so if you let go before a spell is fully charged, your spell will fizzle.
It can be obtained from the Voodoo Staff unlock quest received at level 30. Here are its skills:
Combat Skills:
Blast - Basic ranged voodoo attack. Can damage enemies near the target. Unlocked at level 1
Hexes:
Soul Flay - Damages enemies in a line. Takes 30 Voodoo and 1 second to cast. Unlocked at level
1.
Pestilence - A cone shaped cloud of pestilence. Inflicts acid burns on the victims. Takes 45 Voodoo and 3 seconds to cast. Unlocked at level 2.
Wither - Hits a spherical area around the caster. All victims take damage and suffer lowered attack power. Takes 60 Voodoo and 2 seconds to cast. Unlocked at level 4.
Flaming Skull - Summons a flaming skull as the player charges the staff and launches it in a line. Deals strong damage to enemies in the line area. Takes 120 Voodoo and 4 seconds to cast. Unlocked at level 10.
Banish - A powerful attack that is only effective against the Undead. Takes 210 Voodoo and 8 seconds to cast. Unlocked at level 14.
Desolation - A devastating attack that hurts all nearby enemies, including you. Takes 300 Voodoo and 12 seconds to cast. Unlocked at level 20.
Passive Skills:
Concentration - Increases Voodoo Power recovery rate. Unlocked at level 6.
Spirit Lore - Increases casting speed for the staff. Unlocked at level 8.
Conservation - Decreases the amount of Voodoo Power used by the Voodoo Doll and Voodoo Staff. Unlocked at level 12.

Spirit Mastery - Increases damage dealt by the Voodoo Doll and Voodoo Staff. Unlocked at level 17.
Types of Voodoo Staves:
Cursed Staff - Obtained from Tia Dalma at the end of the Voodoo Staff unlock quest.

Black Pearl Recruit: James Pidgeley - Part II

[NOTE: THIS WALKTHROUGH HAS BEEN WRITTEN ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THE VOODOO DOLL UNLOCK QUEST]

We left off having to recover 6 arrest warrants from Navy ships. You should buy a Light Galleon now from the Shipwright (if you haven't already), as it will be easier to sink all the ships. Light Galleons only cost 300 gold. If you are using your own ship to sail and sink the ships, then I recommend you stick to the Ferrets, Bulwarks, and Panthers sailing between Port Royal and Tortuga. Finish the Navy ships off that you didn't recover from the Voodoo Doll quest, and return to Carver. He says to defeat the 3 assassins that are after him: Claude D'Arcis (disguised as a Navy Sergeant), Jehan Carrou (from a Navy ship), and Lothar du Coteau (already deceased). Start off by talking to Andros Mallet in the Tortuga graveyard. After confirming with him, launch your Light Galleon from a dinghy to capture Jehan Carrou. Sail between Port Royal and Tortuga and sink the Navy ships there until you capture him. Then, dock at either Port Royal or Tortuga. Now there are 2 ways of killing Claude D'Arcis:
Port Royal:
This method is easier, but it can take a while to sail between Port Royal and Tortuga. Once, at Port Royal, switch to a crowded ocean (open the map tab of the Sea Chest, and click on the ocean at the top and switch to an ideal one). Then, enter Fort Charles. Proceed into the fort. There, you'll see many pirates already training on the Navy soldiers there, so just help kill some sergeants until you have achieved the task, then return to Carver.
Tortuga:
The only Sergeants on Tortuga are in the Thieves Den. The Den is past the Wildwoods, into the cave tunnel. The Sergeant is within the walls of the fortress, chopping wood. He is with another Thug. This is a hard fight, so make sure you have Tonics and bring a friend if you can. If not, use the voodoo doll for the fight, as it is best suited for this kind of combat (it is recommended you have your voodoo doll at least level 2 so you can do the Swarm hex). Attune the Sergeant (ignore the Thug) and run around in wide circles, being careful to avoid the other Navy and EITC soldiers. Drink a Tonic if you run low on Health or Voodoo. Use Swarm and Poke until you have defeated the Sergeant. Then, run out of the fort and exit through the tunnel - ignore the other soldiers. If you didn't retrieve the handkerchief, repeat. After you've obtained it, exit Wildwoods and return to the Tortuga town.

Weapon Unlock: Voodoo Doll

Prerequisites: Notoriety level 5
Benefits: The Voodoo Doll is an incredibly powerful weapon that is able to defeat many high level enemies easily (with the right strategy). The quest might be a little long and difficult, but if you want a powerful weapon at your disposal, then I recommend that you do this quest.
Getting Started: Visit Tia Dalma in Cuba. She says that you need to make your own voodoo doll in order to be able to use it.
First Tasks:
•Recover 4 bundles of straw from Navy ships.
•Recover 2 buckets of pitch from a storage container (barrels).
•Recover 3 bolts of silk from East India Trading Co. ships.
•Recover 2 spools of wire from a storage container (crates).
Let's start with the Navy and EITC ships. You can either join a crew via the 'Find a Crew' icon in the Lookout tab of your Sea Chest, or you can sink them on your own. Low level Navy and EITC ships can be found around Tortuga or Port Royal. Either way, when you're finished plundering the straw and the wire, head over to Port Royal and go into Fort Charles.
All the storage containers we need to search for are in Fort Charles. Continue up the road and proceed into the building. Now look for either barrels or crates that, when approached, have a green ring around them. Be careful because when you search them, any Navy Soldiers near you will attack. These two tasks are best done in a crowded Ocean, such as Abassa so there are other Pirates around to distract them. When you are done with these tasks, return to Tia Dalma. When you talk to her, she says you have made the weapon, but it needs to be given power to truly become a real voodoo doll.
Second Tasks:
•Recover 2 blood from Rock Crabs.
•Recover 3 blood from Giant Scorpions.
•Recover 4 blood from Swamp Alligators.
•Recover 3 blood from Cave Bats.
•Recover 2 blood from Dire Wasps.
Almost all these creatures can be found in Port Royal, so let's head over there. Enter the King's Run now. It is right of Fort Charles and the jail, through the graveyard and into the tree tunnel. Run past the Undeads and kill the Swamp Alligators here. Once you have the 4 blood, continue on until you see a hill. On top of the hill there should be some Dire Wasps. They are pretty high level (levels 6-12) so be prepared with some tonics and maybe a friend or two to help you. Once you have obtained the 2 blood from them, exit the King's Run and return to the Port Royal town. Then enter the Wicked Thicket for the Giant Scorpions and the Cave Bats. The Wicked Thicket is located to the right of Darby Drydock (the shipwright in the big beached ship) and through the tunnel. There should be a couple Cave Bats and many Scorpions here. Retrieve their blood, and exit. Now for the last type of blood; Rock Crabs. The closest place they are is Devil's Anvil, so sail there and dock. Rock Crabs could be a little trouble for you if you are only level 5 or 6, so make sure you purchase some tonics from Gypsys. When you are done with that, go back to Cuba to speak with Tia Dalma. The last thing you need now is bone dust from Undeads:
Third Tasks:
•Recover 3 dust from Undead Gravediggers.
•Recover 2 dust from Undead Bandits.
•Recover 2 dust from Undead Pirates.
•Recover dust from an Undead Witchdoctor.
All of these Undeads can be found in Port Royal, so head over there. The Gravediggers can be found right in the Port Royal town, in the graveyard to the right of Fort Charles and the jail.They should be a cinch to defeat, as they are only levels 1-3. Now go over to Wicked Thicket. There should be Pirates, Bandits, and a Witchdoctor. Kill them (you may need a friend to help you), and when you have retrieved the dust, go back to Cuba to speak to Tia Dalma to get your doll!
Finishing Up:
When you talk to Tia Dalma, she says you have been brave and true, and you have completed the doll. This icon then pops up:

Treasure Unlock: Rudyard's Teeth

Prerequisites: Level 18
Benefits: Once you unlock this quest, you have a whole new treasure type to unlock, which means more gold faster. The treasure unlock quests aren't as important as, say, the teleportation quests, but if you need gold and notoriety, then you should do this quest. They are also very easy and quick to complete.
Getting Started:
Visit Jack Sparrow in the Faithful Bride in Tortuga. The Ray of Light will guide you to it if you are tracking the quest. He talks about Rudyard, then says to recover one of his teeth from a Skeleton. The closest skeletons are in Wildwoods, so head over there and enter. There should be a Gravedigger in front of you; kill it. If you don't get the tooth, wait for it to respawn or head over the bridge to kill more skeletons. The tooth is elusive and finding it might take a while, so be patient. Once you get it, return to Jack Sparrow.
Finishing Up:
When you talk to him, he says you can now look for other teeth of Rudyard's. You have now completed the quest! Here is a picture of the treasures:

Dagger

The dagger is a useful weapon, as it provides both ranged and melee attacks. The quest to get your first dagger is unlocked at Notoriety Level 10. However, the quest is only available to Unlimited Access pirates, so Basic Access pirates can't unlock the dagger. Like the cutlass, timed combos can be performed to, when timed correctly, execute increasingly strong attacks. There are some drawbacks, though. One example is that you can only attack one person at a time, whereas with the sword, the Sweep skill can attack all the enemies around you. Another drawback is that it isn't very powerful in melee or range as it can do both.

Combo Skills

Cut - An opening cut.
Swipe - A whirling dagger attack.
Gouge - A powerful downward slice. Unlocked at level 8.
Eviscerate - Delivers 3 quick cuts. Unlocked at level 14.

Special Skills

Asp - Basic dagger throw. Unlocked at level 2.
Adder - Poisoned dagger throw. Poisons the target for a short amount of time. Unlocked at level 4.
Throw Dirt - Throws a handful of dirt at the enemy. Blinds the target temporarily. Unlocked at level 6.
Sidewinder - Sidearm dagger throw. Unlocked at level 12.
Viper's Nest - Throws a brace of daggers. Unlocked at level 17.

Passive Skills

Finesse - Decreases recharge time for Dagger and Cutlass skills. Unlocked at level 10.
Blade Instinct - Increases Cutlass and Dagger combat damage. Unlocked at level 20.

Small Dagger - Obtained from Dagger quest unlocked at Notoriety level 10. Your starting dagger.
Battle Dirk - Purchased from Blacksmith for 250. Available at Dagger level 5. +2 per hit.

Black Pearl Recruit: James Pidgeley - Part I

After talking to Joshamee Gibbs, visit Carver in the same tavern. He is the bartender of the Faithful Bride. He wants you to get a tattoo to prove he can trust you, so visit Tattoo Bonita. If you don't know where she is, take a look at the map on this page (Bonita is in Bonita's Tattoo Parlor). Enter, and talk to her. She says that you need to gather the ingredients first. We need 2 pinches of bone dust from Skeletons, a copper rod from a Navy ship, and 3 blood from Giant Scorpions. Let's get the bone dust and the blood first in the Wildwoods. Exit the shop and head to the path on the right. Enter the tree tunnel at the bend in the road. Defeat the skeletons and scorpion there, and head over the bridge. If you get low on health, use a Tonic by pressing T. Use your gun for these enemies; you need to raise your gun level up. Note that you can't attack the Navy people with your gun. Shoot the scorpions and skeletons dead here until you have enough of the ingredients, and go back over the bridge and exit. Head to the left until you reach the beach, and use the dinghy to launch your light sloop. Like last time, search for a Navy Ferret or Bulwark (or a Panther, if you think you can handle it) and sink it with your broadsides. Once you have gotten the copper rod, sail back to Tortuga and dock.
Return to Tattoo Bonita. After she puts the tattoo on you, go back to Carver. He gives you a list that says to capture a flag from a Navy ship. Time to go out to sea again! :) Around this time, if you get a message in your Journal about visiting Tia Dalma to unlock the Voodoo Doll, you can go ahead and visit her. You can follow the walkthrough for that quest here. Anyways, go to the dinghy and launch your ship. You know the drill; go out and sink Ferrets, Bulwarks, or Panthers until you get the flag, then dock back at Tortuga. Return to Carver. He tells you to capture Captain Steadman from a Navy ship and maroon him to get him to tell you where a list is. To do this, we have to sink a Navy ship...again! Go do that, then dock at Devil's Anvil. Next, use the 'Port of Call' button on the map section of your Sea Chest to return to Tortuga. When at Tortuga, head over to the house called 'Trading Co.' and prepare for a fight. Look at the map here if you don't know where to find it. Once you open the door, there will be a Navy soldier there, so have your sword (or voodoo doll if you have it) ready. Once you killed the soldier, search the desk for the list. Now you have to sink 6 Navy ships. I recommend you do start the Voodoo Doll quest now, as you can use the voodoo doll to defeat enemies more easily.

Visit Joshamee Gibbs. Joshamee Gibbs is in the same tavern as Jack Sparrow: the Faithful Bride in Tortuga. He doesn't trust you, so he asks you to sink a Navy ship, and defeat 4 Navy soldiers. Let's start with the soldiers. To track different quests, open the journal tab in the sea chest, click on the quest you want to track, and click the track icon in the middle of the opened tab:Notice how the tracker message at the top of the screen changed, and with that, the arrow pointing to your destination.

Then head over to Wildwoods: If you were tracking the quest, then just follow the arrow. Defeat the Navy soldiers to the left and around the bridge to the middle. Wait for them to respawn (this should only take about 30 seconds) and defeat them again. Remember to time your attacks to perform combos, which do much more damage than just random button-mashing. Now it's time to sink a Navy ship! Head over to the docks, and board your light sloop using the dinghy. Look around to find a Navy Ferret or Bulwark. Sail straight up to it and fire your broadsides to sink it. Then sail back to Tortuga and dock. Return to Joshamee Gibbs in the Faithful Bride and he'll say you earned his trustworthiness and go speak to Carver.

Voodoo Doll

The voodoo doll is a weapon primarily used for attacking enemies or healing friends with "magic." Voodoo is essentially the "MP (magic points)" of Pirates Online, if you are familiar with other RPGs or games. However, the doll must be attuned to a target before you can attack or heal. To attune, stand next to the target and left click or press the key. The doll will lose attunement if you stray to far from the attuned target.

Combo Skills

Attune - Attune the doll to a target in order to casts spells. Only 1 target can be attuned at a time unless a skill point is spent on the Attune skill.

Hexes

Poke - Poke attack
Swarm - Summons insects to attack the enemy. Unlocked at level 2.
Heal - Heals a friendly pirate. Unlocked at level 4.
Curse - Curses your opponent so that they take in 30% more damage for an increased amount of time. Unlocked at level 6.
Scorch - Sets target on fire. Deals out damage over a long period of time. Unlocked at level 8. Unlimited Access
Cure - Heals and removes hostile effect Buffs from a friendly pirate. Unlocked at level 12. Unlimited Access
Grave Shackles - Chains wrap around the enemy, completely stopping enemy's movement for a short period of time. Unlocked at level 17. Unlimited Access
Life Drain - Drains vitality from the victim. Unlocked at level 20. Unlimited Access

Passive Skills

Focus - Increases maximum Voodoo amount. Unlocked at level 10.
Spirit Ward - Chance to resist enemy voodoo. Unlocked at level 14.

Tutorial

After creating your character, there will be a scene. If you want, you can skip all the scenes by pressing the esc key. Then, attempt to exit the jail by the door to the left and you will have an option to skip the tutorial. If you want to, you can skip it and follow this walkthrough right after the compass tutorial. If you choose not to, exit the jail and follow the path to the Old Warehouse. Enter, and after a scene, you will be asked if you want to learn how to use weapons. Click yes because you will automatically gain a sword level. [Note: Now if you decline the tutorial, you will still gain a level, so it doesn't matter which option you select] Follow the instructions. After the scene, defeat the skeletons if you want, and approach the ship ahead. Follow the instructions on how to shoot a cannon, and another scene will play.

In the scene, Captain Bo Beck gets turned into a skeleton!

Then, in Port Royal, walk past the Fort on the left and enter the graveyard. Here, there will be a bunch of Undead Gravediggers: Defeat 3 of them using your cutlass combos and then walk through the tree tunnel on the other side of the graveyard. During the scene, you will receive the compass. The compass acts as a map to help orient you in your adventures. Then, follow the arrow on the mini-map to the area outside the Governor's Mansion and kill some Navy Soldiers. Once you get the release orders, enter the Mansion and yet another scene will play out. Then, follow the arrow to the shipwright, Darby Drydock. Talk to him and you will receive a ship. Name it, then use the dinghy to board it. This ship is just a light sloop; its firepower and armor are very weak. Take control of the wheel and sail to Devil's Anvil.
If you keep the ship sailing in a straight line, it will pick up momentum and go faster. Drop anchor, and enter the nearby cave for another scene where you get a pistol. You also learn about PVP (Pirate vs Pirate). Follow the pistol tutorial, then sail to Tortuga (press M or open the map tab in your sea chest if you get lost). Dock, then follow the arrow to find Jack Sparrow in the Faithful Bride tavern. Watch the scene, then it will be the end of the tutorial!

At the end of every section, I will post the notoriety level and the different skill levels you should be if you followed this walkthrough. I recommend staying a couple levels above this, as this is a bare minimum, but this early in the game it doesn't matter much.

The pistol is the first long-range weapon you acquire. While it has many advantages such as long range power, different shots, and accuracy, there are many drawbacks like not being able to shoot navy or EITC troops (due to the "pirate code") and having to reload, which takes up time. As a pirate increases their level with the gun, they can obtain new guns that dole out more damage and fire more shots before they needs to be reloaded. Skills that are Unlimited Access means that only paying members can learn and use the skills.

Combat Skills

Shoot - A basic shooting skill. (Starting skill)
Take Aim - Hold down the attack button for an aimed shot. Increases the accuracy, range, and damage of the shot. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds. Unlocked at level 4.

Ammo Skills

Lead Shot - Standard ammunition. Unlimited ammo.
Venom Shot - Coated with deadly venom. Poisons an enemy for 10 seconds. Unlocked at level 2.
Bane Shot - A cursed bullet. Decreases enemy attack power by 30% over 4 seconds. Unlocked at level 6.
Hex Eater Shot - Damages Voodoo as well as Health. Unlocked at level 10. Unlimited Access
Silver Shot - Made from solid silver. Powerful against the Undead, but weak against the Living. Unlocked at level 17. Unlimited Access
Steel Shot - The strongest metal shot. Powerful against the Living, but weak against the Undead. Unlocked at level 20. Unlimited Access

Cutlass

The cutlass is useful for close range melee combat. Like the dagger, timed combos can be performed to execute increasingly more powerful attacks in quick succession. It is the first weapon you receive, and it is the only melee weapon for basic access members (for Unlimited Access pirates, the dagger is also available as a melee/range weapon).

Combo Skills:

Hack - A quick opening attack. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds. Starting skill.
Slash - A broad slash. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds. Starting skill.
Cleave - A mighty overhead cleave. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds. Unlocked at level 4.
Flourish - A series of fast slashes. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds (requires cleave). Unlocked at level 10. Unlimited Access
Thrust - A fancy finishing thrust. Slows an enemy for 3 seconds (requires flourish). Unlocked at level 17. Unlimited Access

Combat Attacks:

Sweep - A wide circular slash. Hits all nearby enemies. Unlocked at level 2.
Brawl - Fight dirty! Disables an enemy for 2 seconds. Unlocked at level 8. Unlimited Access
Taunt - Pulls enemy Agression. Decreases enemy attack accuracy. Unlocked at level 14. Unlimited Access
Blade Storm - Delivers a barrage of sword slashes. Unlocked at level 20. Unlimited Access

The title says it all: a new weapon has been released into the POTCO community. It can be obtained through the Cannon Run quest. Besides using it to fire a cannon, it can be used for bonking Navy and EITC troops on the head, swabbing the deck, and many more things! But guess what? This article was released on April Fools' Day. ‘Secrets of Tortuga Teleportation’ Quest Guide

Prerequisites: Lvl 7 Notoriety
Benefits: This is a very important quest to complete, as upon completion, you are granted the power of Tortuga teleportation, which is a very useful thing.
Getting Started: Speak with Tia Dalma in Cuba She says that you need to “pay” her in order for you to be able to use the totem, and gives you the tasks below:
•Recover 3 pairs of bat wings from Cave Bats. Cave Bats are located in caves on any island, and also in the wilderness of Tortuga and Port Royal. They are very low level and should be easy to defeat.
•Recover 3 wasp essences from Dire Wasps. Dire Wasps are found on any wild island (except Devil’s Anvil) or in certain places in the forests of Port Royal or Tortuga. They can get pretty high-level (around lvls 7-12), so come prepared with a couple tonics and maybe a friend or two to help you.
•Recover a fly trap leaf from a Fly Trap. Fly traps are found in the swamps of Cuba and Tortuga. They are generally high-level enemies, and their venom spit is a very damaging attack. NOTE: If you hide behind a tree, the Fly Traps’ venom spit with still hit you!
THE RECOMMENDED ORDER these tasks should be completed is as follows: Defeat the Fly Trap right beside Tia Dalma after you are finished talking to her. You should come prepared with some healing tonics and a friend. When you finish fighting the Fly Trap, sail to Driftwood Island and defeat the 3 dire wasps to recover their essence. Finally, sail to Port Royal and dock your ship. Then, travel west, following the shore, until you reach an entrance to a wild forest. Enter it. There, you will find a Cave Bat. Defeat it. Then wait for it to respawn (reappear – it should take no longer than 30 seconds), and when it does, defeat it again. Repeat until you get the 3 pairs of bat wings. Then, sail back to Cuba and talk to Tia Dalma to start the next phase.

Phase II:
When you speak to Tia Dalma again, she says that your payment is made and now the totem must be bound to the land you want to return to:
•Recover a tortugan artifact from a buried treasure chest. This is the last task; it can get pretty annoying if you are having trouble finding the chest. What you have to do here is walk around Tortuga (NOT around any of the wild parts of Tortuga, though) until a green circle pops up, and the message ‘Press shift to dig’ pops up. Then you press to dig for the buried treasure chest. Often times, though, the chest will not be there. Don’t give up and keeping searching around for those dig sites.
•Once you retrieve the torugan artifact, head back to Cuba and talk to Tia Dalma. She then (finally) grants you the access to teleport to Tortuga as you wish. Congratulations!
